We conduct research at the frontiers of psychiatry and computer science, building functional AI systems for improved patient care and advancing ML methods through the lens of clinical psychiatry.

Our Mission

From computer science theory and systems to clinical applications and policy, we develop the methods and build the infrastructure needed to make AI in mental health and psychiatry safe, adaptive, and accountable in the real world.

That means designing methods alongside the clinicians who would use them, and having evaluation as part of the research rather than an afterthought.

Principal Investigator

Ananya A. Joshi

Assistant Professor of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences and Computer Science

Ananya founded the PALS Research Lab to close the gap between rapid advances in AI and what psychiatric care can safely and reliably use in practice. She earned her Ph.D. and M.S. in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University as an NSF Graduate Research Fellow, and her B.S.E. in Computer Science from Princeton University.
